Abstract

The pace of destruction of wild life in thickly populated and unindustrialised countries, which was slow in the beginning of the century grew alarmingly rapid during the past few decades. The pattern of dissipation has been similar in almost all developing countries. India may not be an exception, at least in some respects. A few game reserves maintained in early part of the century were in fact exclusive shooting grounds of rulers and their guests. The philosophy of National Parks which was first conceived in the USA caught the imagination of the naturalists in India and its first National Park, now known as Corbett Park, was established in Uttar Pradesh in 1935 with the main object of providing protection and shelter to wild life. In a thickly populated country, where needs of human beings are limitless, the future of its wild life is precarious. Our National Parks have to be mainly faunal in character to provide not only refuge to but also preservation of representative wild life. These Parks also provide recreational and research opportunities. The Park has to be free from grazing, fire and depredations by poachers. It should be a complete ecological unit to provide all the year-round requirements of food, water and shelter to all its inhabitants. Development of tourism requires division of the Park into three sections, in which only the peripheral section should be developed for tourists by providing basic amenities. The Park assumes some features of a big industry on account of its recreational aspect. It is capable of changing the economy of the adjoining area by providing employment and business. No one can, however, estimate in monetary terms the benefits that accrue in the shape of mental and physical health.

Abstract

The Pliocene-Pleistocene sections at ODP sites 762B and 763A from the Exmouth Plateau (eastern Indian Ocean) were examined to assess the biostratigraphic significance of the benthic foraminiferal The benthic foraminiferal assemblages at both the sites are characteristic of bathyal depths Based on the stratigraphic ranges of significan ta xa, four benthic foraminiferal biozones have been proposed The proposed biozones in ascending order are Hofkeruva nitidula Zone (∼6 6 to ∼4 72 Ma), Biloculina murrhina Zone (∼4 72 to ∼1 8 Ma), Ceratobulimina pacifica stilostomella insecta overlap Zone ( ∼1 8 to ∼0 82 Ma) and Ceratobulimina pacifica zone (∼0 82 Ma to Recent) The lower and upper boundaries of the Biloculina murrhina Zone are defined by the last appearance of Hofker uva riitrdula (Schwager) and first appearance of Ceratobulimina pacifica Cushman and Harris respectively The base of Ceratobulimina pacifica Zone is defined by the last appearance of stilostomella insecta (Schwager).

Abstract

Branker (Adhatoda vasica) is important shrub in Kandi areas of Jammu region. It is used for two purposes first is used for medicine and second is used for traditional purpose. Branker plants are use to cure different diseases such as asthma, skin disease, chronic, bronchitis, cough, cold and tuberculosis. Branker leaves, bark, the ischolar_main bark, the fruit and flowers are useful in the removal of intestinal parasites. In the traditional purposes are used as traditional wisdom, food, mulching, cleaning teeth, fruit ripening, roofing of kaccha houses, cattle sheds, fuels and control soil erosion.

Abstract

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), belong to family moraceae is a common and popular fruit crop of the low land tropics of eastern and southern parts of India. It is indigenous to India, commonly grown in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Brazil, Jamaica, Mynamar, Singapore. In India; it grows in Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Western Ghats and some parts of the Jammu and Kashmir. Due to shifting of the human population from one part to another part of the country now a day the demand of jack fruit is increasing day by day for vegetable purpose. Hence the orchards of jackfruit will be profitable for farming community of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts for uplifting the livelihood security.

Abstract

Benefits of red flush guava : Red flush guava (Psidium guajava L.), belongs to family Myrtaceae and its fruit type is berry. It is very tasty, energetic, richest sources of carotenoid. The edible portions of the fruit are Thalamus and pericarp. The common types of guava include apple guava, yellow-fruited cherry guava, strawberry guava, and red apple guava. Among the different type of guavas, red flush guava is one of most important fruit crops of tropics and subtropics region and most popular among the fruit growers community of India due to its unique flavour, taste, pink coloured pulp and numerous health-promoting qualities, the fruit easily fits in the new functional foods category, often called “super-fruits.” Pink guava, unlike white guava has a pink coloured sweet pulp loaded with seeds.

Abstract

Custard apple (Anona squamosa L.) is a small group of edible fruits of genus Annona and family Annonaceae are collectively known as annonaceous fruits. It is one of the most delicious fruits mainly consumed fresh. Annona fruits are formed by fusion of pistil and receptacle into a large flashy aggregate fruit. Genus Annona has 120 species, 6 of them having pomological significance.
